A Great Man Gone

AVOIDING ALLITERATION

I write this post to mourn the loss of a great man. Tom Edmondson. He won’t appear in any google searches, and his passing won’t be announced on any TV channels, but he was my grandfather and a great man. I gained him as a grandfather late in my life when my mom married his youngest son, but I am grateful every day that I got to call him and the rest of the Edmondsons my family. They were uniquely different from the family that I had grown up in.

The Dowds are primarily women, 4 sisters, 1 brother, all raised by my grandmother. My generation balanced out a little better with 4 boys and 2 girls, but women ran the family (sorry Dowd men, but you know it’s true).
